A senior Iranian military commander says the United States is financing terrorists to kill Muslims in the Middle Eastern countries, especially in Syria.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - “By providing terrorists with heavy financial support, Washington seeks to incite fratricide in the Middle Eastern countries, notably Syria,” Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, an advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, said on Tuesday.

Noting that the US, the Zionist regime of Israel as well as some Arab and European states are trying to hinder unity in the Muslim world, the Iranian commander said: “To that effect, the US has been endeavoring in recent months to sow discord among Muslims by backing terrorists in different countries of the Middle East, particularly in Syria.”

“The US and the Zionist regime have even forced some regional states to follow in their footsteps,” Safavi added.

He stated that the Western governments, specifically the US, are trying to undermine unity in the Islamic world.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011. Many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed in the turmoil.

The Syrian government says that the chaos is being orchestrated from outside, accusing Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey of arming the opposition.
